Our Take On WordPress, Wix, and Squarespace

When you’re looking to make a website, what’s the best option?  Well, to produce the absolute best website to suit your every need, you need to manually code it yourself, but unless you’re an expert coder and have the money to manage consistent maintenance, updates and security, that option isn’t an option.  For those of us who want a website and don’t know how to code, there’s content delivery platforms. The three big ones being WordPress, Wix, and Squarespace.

Which one should you use?  WordPress can look a bit overwhelming at a first glance.  Wix looks easier to use, at least according to advertisements.  Squarespace . . . also exists.

It’s WordPress.  You already read the title, so I’m not gonna drag it out, WordPress is the choice you want. After developing hundreds of websites for all kinds of businesses, here is why we recommend you use WordPress.

1.  Complete Customizability

The biggest advantage WordPress has over other websites is its customizability.  It is fully open to 3rd party developers who’ve created numerous themes and plugins to give your site near limitless functionality with very little need for coding skills.  If there’s something you want your website to do, nine out of ten times someone already made a tool to do it.

If you do have some coding skills, but don’t want the hassle of coding your whole website, WordPress also provides you with the option to use Child Themes and plugins to edit the source code of your website to add and control elements it normally doesn’t allow through its options.  This gives you the ability to do anything you want with the minimum amount of effort.

Its geeky enough for geeks to have fun with, but simple enough for non-geeks to manage without tearing any hair out.

2.  Best For SEO Marketing

SEO marketing is an important part of basic website design if you want people to find your website and make sales.  SEO marketing includes things like optimizing keyword usage, adding alt tags to images so search engines knows what they are, including metadata to help search engines know what your site is about, and a great many other minor things.  Without all of these elements, search engines such as Google will not bring your website within searches and in turn, noi sales. Nobody will come to your website regardless of how well designed it is. Search engines just won’t know that your site is relevant to what people are searching for.

While Wix and Squarespace have some tools for SEO, WordPress has the BEST tool out there with the most ways to optimize: Yoast.  Yoast is a WordPress plugin that reads your content, analyzes it for its SEO, and then lets you know where your pages and posts could be improved for best results.  It lays its suggestions out in a window underneath the page editor and lets you highlight each place where it recommends making changes to help you quickly improve your site’s content.

It also comes with its own readability tab, which uses the Flesch-Kincaid Readability Scale to help you make your content as easy to read as possible.  It can pick up on when you’re not using enough transition words, when there’s not enough variability in your sentences, when paragraphs and sentences are too long, and when you overuse passive voice. These tools are fantastic at making sure your content is perfect for your audience.

3. Overall Marketing Advantage

Because WordPress has such great tools for SEO, WordPress is the best platform for getting organic traffic.  Quoting a study by Ahrefs, Neil Patel tells us that 46.1% of WordPress websites will get organic traffic, easily besting Wix with its measly 1.4%.  Again, Squarespace also exists, but without all the marketing features as WordPress yet. This is a huge advantage. It’s not enough to push you to the top of Google’s search results, but the head-start is the first step to getting there.
